Educator

Jim has delivered masterclasses in music for film and record production. He has been guest lecturer to Universities, colleges and the Scottish Documentary Institute and has been engaged as a mentor by the Scottish Screen Academy at Napier University.

His eight workshop course on music composition for film, commissioned by Distil, proved very popular and culminated in each student recording their own score for a short film and having it shown at a public screening in the Robert Burns Film Theatre at the Scots Trad Music Awards. Thanks to Scottish Screen Archive for the donation of the films.

Jim has also tutored high profile pupils, including Evelyn Glennie, for bodhran lessons, and advised U2 drummer, Larry Mullen on how to play locust bean pods!
